Apathy can be overcome by enthusiasm, and enthusiasm can only be aroused by two things: first, an ideal, with takes the imagination by storm, and second, a definite intelligible plan for carrying that ideal into practice.”—Arnold Toynbee
Self-respect is the fruit of discipline; the sense of dignity grows with the ability to say no to oneself.”—Abraham J. Heschel
Rest Day
What you are able to accomplish on any given day is not the issue. What is important is that you are able to accomplish something and that you continue to improve. Success happens over time. When you put the effort in on a daily basis you learn, grow and become attached to your goals. Otherwise, your goals are just a phantom of you imagination. If you can find a way to look at your own imperfections and strive to make them perfect on a continual basis you have no time for comparing yourself to others and getting caught up in the age-old flaw (arguing about whose right, or better). Action is what makes everything come to life. Without action, all we can do is just try to explain what we’re thinking. Show me the money! And stop talking. There is far too much of that in the world and that’s how we get in trouble.
One who is unassuming in dealing with people exhibits his arrogance all the more strongly in dealing with things (city, state, society, age, mankind). That is his revenge.”—Friedrich Nietzsche

How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because some day in life you will have been all of these.”—George Washington Carver
An expert is a man who tells you a simple thing in a confused way in such a fashion as to make you think the confusion is your own fault.”~William Castle

When men are most sure and arrogant they are commonly most mistaken, giving views to passion without that proper deliberation which alone can secure them from the grossest absurdities.”—David Hume
Rest Day
It seems nowadays we have too few ‘little engines that could’. Remember the story of the train that just kept plugging along. Well the first sign of resistence these days and we stop and quit. We need to go back to the time when there were no remote controls, no calculators, and even no cars. There would be a lot less out-of-shape people. We wouldn’t even have to argue over healthcare because so few people would need it. We’re in shape—why would we argue over something we don’t need. Every kid in America should have to ride his/her bike to school everyday. Oh, it costs too much for a bike you say. I saw a bike at the ARC store for $25 the other day. That’s about 125 miles, or less, that you would have to drive in your car to pay for the bike. Next, the penalty for abduction of a child is instant execution without publicity. It would be all in secret just like the MAFIA. Then we would use the ashes to make things like glue and particle board. Either way it would be a brand new society. A crossfitter would be ready for this society. If anything else that Crossfit instills in you it is that persistance and integrity pay big dividends. Give me a call if you’d like to join the society
